I've needed a study on this for years – spiritual apathy & complacency is a horrible place to be but always begged the Lord to please not stop working on me and not leave me alone. 😓
Speaking of the church of Ephesus, it's my understanding it was Roman Emperor Domitian that exiled Apostle John to the island of Patmos. Domitian's reign was 81AD-96AD. (which means Revelation wasn't written before 70 AD) I've read Domitian was a madman and heavily persecuted Christians. He built a temple in 86 AD in his honor & made the people worship it and make sacrifices. He referred to himself as a god. So this was going on in Ephesus when Jesus composed that letter to them through John. I just find it very interesting.
